Mi Notebook Pro

Xiaomi presents a competition for MacBook Pro

So you finally decided to sell your old Mac and get a new one. It will be slimmer, faster, more expensive, but looks like something you needed for a while. But wait, perhaps, you want to read this first. Xiaomi announced a portable computer, Mi Notebook Pro.

The device is equipped with 8th generation Intel Core, which is up to 40% faster than the predecessors. 16 GB of RAM and up to 1TB SSD storage complement processor’s productivity. As for graphics computations, NVIDIA GeForce MX150 is taking charge. MX150 is an entry-level graphics processor that is built on Pascal architecture and 2GB GDDR5 dedicated memory. Mi Notebook Pro looks very sturdy. It has an aluminium body and its 15,6-inch  and up to screen is protected with 3rd generation Gorilla Glass.

With dimensions of 360,7 x 234,6 x 15,9 mm the notebook weighs slightly under 2kg. There is a fingerprint scanner that is built into the trackpad, 2 Wifi aerials, and acoustic system developed with assistance of Harman. Its 60 W/h battery charges from 0 to 100% in slightly over an hour.

How does it compare to MacBook Pro? Xiaomi note that keyboard covers 19% more area than Apple’s MacBook Pro, which allows more comfortable typing. Mi Notebook Pro has 2 USB Type-C and 2 USB 3.0, 1 HDMI port, 3-in-1 SD card reader, and 3,5mm audio jack. MacBook Pro has a similar variety, but it lacks 2 USB 3.0 ports. But most importantly, Mi Notebook Pro costs about $1000 less than a MacBook Pro with similar configurations (UK prices are not available yet).
